Dear President Sayasone,
We would like to draw your attention to the plight of 18 Christian families in Saravan Province. They were driven away from their homes by the local village authorities of Katin in Ta-Oyl District. Since then, they are leading isolated lives in the border of a jungle and are suffering from the lack of proper nutrition as well as from various illnesses, which have already claimed the life of the Christian Ampheng.
Saravan Governor Duangpanya assured the 18 families of their right to return to Katin Village in accordance with the 2002 Prime Ministerial Decree granting religious freedom. The village authorities, however, threaten to kill these Christians should they do so. We urgently ask you to see to it that justice is done or that the villagers are at least relocated in a manner enabling them to live in human dignity.
Yours sincerely and respectfully, |
